Important Update Regarding Employers Liability

We have an important update regarding our Employers Liability (EL) section of cover which takes effect from 1st January.

What has changed?

  • Employers Liability cover has been removed from our policy from 1st January onwards for new business only.
  • Any existing policies with Employers Liability cover included will continue to have EL and policyholders will be able to extend when they need it (up to 18 months).

What it means for you and your clients

If you incept any quotes after 1st January which did have EL included, we will not be able to honour the EL cover. If you have clients who definitely need this cover, we recommend encouraging the client to take out the policy during December (providing works are starting within 30 or 60 days depending on the level of cover). This is because our EL premiums are generally more competitive than stand-alone EL policies if they were to try and arrange a separate policy.

If any existing clients policies reach the 18-month point from 1st January onwards, we will not be able to continue EL cover for those clients. EL cover has always only been available for up to 18 months and we would then have to arrange a new business policy. Unfortunately, this will no longer be possible, meaning that EL will be removed when it reaches 18 months.

We are working to find a future solution with insurers and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
